Spectral Pastoral has grown out of a love of landscape paintings, prints and photography. In particular our emotive conceiving of the landscape as a representation and reflection of personal and cultural sensibilities.
Shot in woodlands, parks and farmland the series plays on the magical realism of landscape and draws heavily on the imagery of folk lore, fairy tales and myth. The photographs are not illustrative but we recognise this shared iconography of a deep-rooted psychological attachment to the land, an iconography attuned to its enchantment, portents and cycles.

In a time of deep uncertainty and mistrust the series rummages and builds from an intuitive, imaginative engagement with nature. An engagement that mixes the documentary, the fictional and the personal, and is open to enchantment but wary of uncertainty just below the surface or beyond our view.
